Health Qigong takes centre stage in Cambridge
The Third Cambridge Chinese Music & Culture Festival is being held in Cambridge, United Kingdom, from 21 to 27 August 2026.
Featuring an impressive programme and a distinguished line-up of artists, this year’s festival presents three prestigious concerts featuring 24 accomplished musicians from China and around the world. It also includes two master-level music lectures and a wide range of activities related to Chinese music, culture and the arts, offering Cambridge audiences a vibrant celebration of artistic performance, cultural exchange and public engagement.
HQFUK’s public Health Qigong demonstration
The Health Qigong Federation UK was invited to take part in the festival’s cultural programme. Led by its Chairman, Mr Herman Wang, federation members dressed in traditional white Health Qigong uniforms and presented a public demonstration of Health Qigong exercises.
Through a series of graceful and flowing movements, combining opening and closing, rising and sinking, relaxation and control, the performers vividly demonstrated the distinctive qualities of Health Qigong and the depth of traditional Chinese health-preservation culture.
The Health Qigong presentation complemented the traditional Chinese music featured at the festival, enabling audiences to experience the Chinese cultural principles of harmony, balance and vitality through music, visual performance and physical movement. It also added a distinctive dimension to the festival’s wider cultural programme.
Sharing Health Qigong with festival visitors
Throughout the event, the Health Qigong Federation UK operated a dedicated exhibition and information stand. Through books, exercise manuals, photographs and information materials, federation members introduced visitors to traditional Health Qigong practices, including Yi Jin Jing, Wu Qin Xi, Liu Zi Jue and Ba Duan Jin.
The display also highlighted the positive role of Health Qigong in improving physical fitness, supporting mental and emotional well-being, promoting healthy living and contributing to community health.
The exhibition stand attracted a large number of visitors and Health Qigong enthusiasts, many of whom stopped to learn more, ask questions and take part in discussions. Federation members provided guidance, distributed information materials and led interested visitors through some of the basic movements, allowing them to experience the practice and better understand its potential health benefits.
Many participants carefully followed the instructors and experienced the gentle stretching, controlled breathing and mental relaxation associated with Health Qigong. The lively and welcoming atmosphere encouraged people from different cultural backgrounds to discover more about traditional Chinese health and well-being practices.
Music, movement and cultural exchange
Using music as a bridge between cultures, the Third Cambridge Chinese Music & Culture Festival brings together high-quality performances, lectures by leading musicians, cultural exhibitions and public participation. It provides an important platform for audiences from Britain, China and other countries to discover Chinese culture and strengthen mutual understanding through the arts.
The participation of the Health Qigong Federation UK brought together Chinese musical traditions and traditional health-preservation practices, adding a unique and memorable feature to the festival.
In recent years, the Health Qigong Federation UK has actively participated in the Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival, Colchester Carnival and numerous cultural festivals and community events across the country. Through these activities, the federation continues to introduce Health Qigong to wider British society and make its health and cultural benefits more accessible to local communities.
Following its appearance at the Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival, the federation’s participation in the Cambridge Chinese Music & Culture Festival marks another important opportunity to promote traditional Chinese culture in Cambridge. It also provides a strong foundation for closer cooperation with local cultural institutions and community organisations.
Music transcends borders, and health connects people. The Health Qigong Federation UK will continue to use Health Qigong as a bridge to share the richness of traditional Chinese culture, promote community health, strengthen people-to-people exchanges between China and the United Kingdom, and contribute to greater understanding and friendship among diverse cultures.
